Jan
1, 2008 I participated in the annual Polar Plunge into
Lake Washington.
A stranger asked permission to take a picture of me because my
hat was so cute [I knitted a hat yesterday [from an idea I had -
no pattern] with an inch or so of ribbing 1 knit, 1 purl in two
strands of black wool and the rest in seed stitch with the
mohair, silver & wool from the leftovers in my stash from making
my knitted wrap. The hat is fitted and no decreases at the top
just a 3 needle bind off which I learned how to do
yesterday after watching a video of it on
www.knittinghelp.com.
I also made two pom poms of the tips of the hat and my hair was
in two buns filling out the points of the hat. So I had a
matching wrap & hat! And a stranger wanted a picture of me & my
knitting! How exciting!!] Then a friend said I was a rock star
knitter:) This is my first large piece is a wrap from
Knitting Beyond Scarves. It's all garter stitch and just two
long rectangles sewn together. These are pictures H took
of me after taking the Polar Plunge.
Jan 9, 2008 For
those of you following my knitting adventures: here's the
knitting in the round technique I was taught
http://www.knitting-and.com/wiki/Magic_Loop and video
here
http://www.knittinghelp.com/videos/advanced-techniques just
scroll down to small diameter "magic loop." I would add
however:
First, I was taught after casting on however many stitches your
project requires to slip the first stitch off the "back" or
"right" needle and the first stitch off the "left" or "front"
needle over the slipped stitch and onto the "back" or "right"
needle and then begin knitting as the video on
www.knittinghelp.com
shows.
Second, it's really important to note where the working yarn is
coming off from that's your "back" or "right" needle and be sure
it's laying over the needle before you pull it out and start
knitting off the "left" needle.
Jan 19, 2008 Finished "wavy scarf" in
yellow & black horizontal stripes from "Stitch & Bitch Nation".
Picture to the right. Sort of matches bumblee hat:) Excited to
start new project.
Jan 22, 2008 I
started a spiral hat [Beth] from Hip Hat Knits in the round and I
finished it the next evening in a chunky purple wool.
Jan 25, 2008 I
knit a horizontal skinny scarf in purple & black chunky wool to
go with the hat I knit earlier in the week. No pattern just
basic seed stitch, stripes, and a bit of eyelash yarn. I
finished it in day or so. Wow, I see why folks like chunky
yarns!
Feb
5, 2008 So I had my first sock knitting class
and it rocked! Of course I love it because it's being taught by
my favorite expert knitter at
http://renaissanceyarns.com. It uses a "magic cast on" featured
video here and knitted on long 40 - 47" circular needles in
the magic loop technique [video
here if you scroll down] I'm working on my first sock I'll
soon be to the heel area where I'll knit in some waste yarn so I
can do the after-thought heel at next Sundays class. The pattern
is Sock ra
Tease and available on line.
Feb 6, 2008I am
actually going to accomplish my knitting homework for class on
Sunday! I will have made essentially a tube sock
with waste
yarn knitted on one side of a round where the after-thought
heel will be knit in.
This is a very long scarf
I knitted horizontally without a pattern as a gift for N to
the right. I used three super soft colors in organic cotton
and enjoyed my first attempt at moss stitch.
To the left is a picture is of a hat I
knitted for H back in December. It's knitted flat in
first ribbing, then
seed stitch, and finally in stockinette
in a spiraling decreases. H wears it a lot and that never
seems to cease to make me happy.
I
sewed my wrap up into a poncho so it stops falling off my
shoulders with whipstitch pictured to the right.
Feb 20, 2008
I finished my hemp washcloth and my first pair of socks!!!
I'v e now migrated over to
www.ravelry.com to blog
about my knitting adventures! Check me out at "LeilaniB"
